Frequently asked questions

What is the Green Space Certificate?

The Green Space Certificate is a document certifying the green infrastructure provision of a plot or property, which states the ecological performance of the plot or property.

The Green Space Certificate provides information on the quantity, condition, quality and maintenance needs of the green space on the property/plot, and also contains recommendations for green space development and maintenance.

For the following, exceeding 5000 m2 of total useful floor area:
– priority investments,
– investments implemented in brownfield action areas,
– state building construction investments,
– buildings with an eaves height exceeding 65 metres
with regard to their green spaces,
– and for the green spaces of construction investments aimed at erecting new buildings, as well as for the plots concerned, certification is mandatory.

If the construction investment is implemented in several phases, the Green Space Certificate must be prepared for the green space of the entire investment plot before the application for the occupancy permit procedure for the building of the last construction phase is submitted.
When a new landscape architecture work exceeding 5000 m2 is created in a public garden or public park green area, a Green Space Certificate must be prepared for its area; when an existing landscape architecture work is transformed or extended and its design area exceeds 5000 m2, a certificate must be prepared for this design area. Public gardens and public parks are understood as areas with such a zoning classification in the local building regulations.

Transport and public utility infrastructure, brownfield action areas and priority investments may be exempt.

According to the Chamber, exams are announced monthly. Current exam dates are available on the Chamber's website.

“Attending the course is not a prerequisite for admission to the exam. Attending the course earns chamber credit points. Completing the course does not entitle participants to take the chamber exam for green space certifiers.”
The start of the next course depends on the number of applications.

The geospatial survey required for the Green Space Certificate and the processing of geospatial surveys may only be carried out by partners contracted by MKA through public procurement, as these organisations have proven capability for surveying and data processing at the appropriate level.
The system usage fee is expected to be updated every 12 months. The order and the payment of the system usage fee must be initiated at least 120 days before the date of certification, but for the above reason it is worth doing so as early as possible.

The calculation of the system usage fee is set by a ministerial decision of the Ministry of Construction and Transport (ÉKM), with tiered pricing based on the plot area. A preliminary fee calculation is available on the Green Space Certificate website: https://zoldfeluletitanusitvany.hu/methodology.html
